What do you think of Off the Record (Vol. 25) as the book’s title? Be honest. Comments are open.
I’ve been having second thoughts this week. I’m writing about the launch of U2.com in late 2000 and its impact on @U2 and fan sites. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say “the impact it could’ve had” on fan sites. I was definitely concerned when it launched, but as we know now, the band’s official site was not a replacement for fan sites (and was probably never meant to be).
ANYWAY…as I was writing, the song/phrase “even better than the real thing” popped into my mind, and I thought, Should THAT be the name of the book? Or is it too pretentious and arrogant?
I like the OTR title because that column was such a bedrock of the site for two decades, and there’s some full-circle sh*t happening by using OTR in the book title, too.
But is EBTTRT better? Is there something else I should consider as the title?
For anyone who knows atU2.com will get the Off the Record (Vol. 25) reference.
I like it.
Thanks Brad, I appreciate that. Hope all is well with you!
Whatever you decide, I sure hope ‘Even Better Than the Real Thing’ is the chapter title for the one that talks about the creation of U2.com and the initial anxiety fan sites undoubtedly experienced. (The fact that it was an unnecessary worry wouldn’t be known until later, of course.)
Even if you allay any hesitation about naming the chapter that and do it, you could always express concern (in the writing of the chapter) about initial hesitation due to feeling it might sound pretentious/arrogant.
But it’s still 100% true, LOL!!
